Snow-white mountain peaks, sunny valleys and idyllic Alps: There are many good reasons to visit the Valais, but it is above all the countless single trails that attract bikers to the south side of the Alps. From the plateau of Crans-Montana, the Valais Alpine Bike takes you first to the baths of Leukerbad and then to the sunny Alps on the south side of the Rhone Valley on trails with great views. A short detour into the Mattertal and a high-altitude flight over the Gibidumpass will then transport you to Brig. Afterwards, the dreamy Lötschental, the flanks of the Val d'Anniviers and a thrilling descent down to Grimentz beckon. Whether valley or summit: on this bike tour, the Valais provides many good reasons for another visit.

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Crans-Montana

Enjoy the view of the highest peaks of the Valais and a walk on the high plateau of Crans-Montana.

Day 2: Crans-Montana – Leukerbad

The tour climbs relatively steadily at the beginning. The culmination is the Cabane de la Tièche, where a descent of more than 1,000 meters in altitude down to Leuk begins. Occasionally you rush past a few alps, later the descent at Varen leads through the vineyards and vines of the Rhone Valley. Once in Leuk, the bus takes you up to Leukerbad. Details: approx. 23 km (of which single trails: 8 km) á 730 m â1'580 m

Day 3: Leukerbad – Unterbäch

In the morning you take the cable car up to the Rinderhütte. Here, one of the most beautiful single trails in Switzerland awaits you with the Torrenttrail Bike. At Erschmatt you turn off and follow a challenging trail down into the Rhône valley. From Raron, the cable car takes you up to the next stage town of Unterbäch. If you can't get enough of the Valais mountain air, you can add a few laps on the flow trail before descending into the valley. Details: approx. 33 km (of which single trails: 15 km) á 530 m â 2,230 m

Day 4: Unterbäch – Grächen

By chairlift up to Brandalp. From here in a steady up and down to Moosalp. Enjoy the view and take a well-deserved break, where you should try the legendary cream cake at the Moosalp restaurant. Now it's time to get back in the saddle and tackle the descent into the Mattertal, via the mountain village of Törbel and into the valley floor to Stalden. Then continue on the beautiful Matterhorn Valley Trail up through the Mattertal to St. Niklaus. From St. Niklaus a bus will take you to Grächen, the destination of today's stage. Details: approx. 32.5 km (of which single trails: 11 km) á 1'170 m â 1'655 m

Day 5: Grächen – Brig

You follow the Mattsand Enduro Trail and the Matterhorn Valley Trail down to Kalpetran and continue in the valley floor to Stalden. The cable car takes you up to Gspon and then a beautiful trail leads through the Sädol forest to the Gibidumpass. From here a comfortable trail leads you down into the wild Nanztal. At Alp Nidristi you can take a short break before a last trail leads you to Brig. Details: approx. 51 km (of which single trails: 18 km) á 890 m â 2’900 m

Day 6: Brig – Blatten

By bus and train via Goppenstein to Wiler in the Lötschental. If you want to take it easy, take the cable car up to Lauchernalp. If you have enough strength in your legs, you can climb up a serpentine road to Hockenalp. The ride high above the Lötschental with a view of the Langgletscher glacier is a pleasure, the descent down to the valley floor makes you want more. Details: approx. 16 km (of which single trails: 6 km) á 930 m â 790 m

Day 7: Blatten – St-Luc

More Lötschental is on the program today. First leisurely along the valley floor, then with the cable car up to Lauchernalp. After the rigorous climb the day before, you have now almost overcome the greatest difference in altitude. The descent leads in constant ups and downs with magnificent views of the snow-covered Valais peaks out of the Lötschental. From Alp Meiggu the descent begins, leading you with occasional counter ascents up to small hamlets, down into the Rhone valley. From Sierre bus ride to St. Luc. Details: approx. 45 km (of which single trails: 20 km) á 1'315 m â 2'905 m

Day 8: St-Luc – Grimentz | Departure

With the funicular up to Tignousa. From here it goes high above the Val d'Anniviers to Zinal. At the end of the tour, a real highlight follows. The cable car takes you up to almost 2,700 meters to Sorebois and from here it's all downhill. Past the Lac de Moiry reservoir to the small mountain village of Grimentz. After arrival in Grimentz, bus ride to Sierre, luggage pick-up and departure. Details: approx. 29 km (of which single trails: 15 km) á 890 m â 2'500 m

Tour charakter

Many altitude meters are overcome by cable car, but again and again there are challenging climbs. Some of the descents are long, and on some days there are over 1,000 meters of descent at a time. Good basic condition is needed for this. The trails are also for average experienced bikers and with E-MTB well doable.
