Day 1 San José

No activities are planned during the day, so you can check into the hotel and explore the city. Since San José is located in the central highlands, you can expect a temperate climate. Amidst the hustle and bustle, downtown San José has beautiful parks, museums, and the magnificent National Theater of Costa Rica. The downtown streets offer magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 2 San José/San Isidro

By local bus we will go over the highest pass of the country. Arrive in the valley of San Isidro de El General and walk around the main square. Look around the main square and check out the stores before heading into the jungle tomorrow.

Day 3 San Isidro/Piedras Blancas

Today we leave for an excursion (3 days and 3 nights) with a local adventure tour company to the community of Piedras Blancas, located in the heart of the Zona de los Santos region. The trip is always half the fun, so we leave town in the back of pickup trucks and travel like the locals to find the trailhead for our hike in the small town of Brujo.

From there you will hike 4-5 hours to your host family in the jungle, your home for the night, seeing many exotic plants and animals along the way.

Included meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 Piedras Blancas

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 Piedras Blancas

Start the day with a delicious homemade breakfast to fuel you for the two-hour hike through the rainforest to Los Fonseca's house. Enjoy the view and the sound of the roaring waterfall just outside the dining area. Observe wildlife and hummingbirds up close. Indulge in homemade chocolate made from cacao beans sourced directly from the garden.Zipline across the Rio Savegre to your next homestay. Walk to the medicinal plants of the forest included.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 Piedras Blancas/Dominical

A full day of action awaits you today. Set your alarm to hop out of bed early in the morning for a two-hour hike back to Brujo, where we'll take a raft trip down the Savegre River.

We'll paddle towards the Pacific coast and then take a minibus to Dominical. Spend the rest of the day in the local bungalows, in the pool or walking on the beach.
