Oeschinensee round hike

Around Lake Oeschinen in the Bernese Oberland you can discover several hikes that are absolutely worthwhile and belong to the most beautiful tours in Switzerland.

One of the most beautiful tours is a route that starts in Kandersteg. The trail leads along the Via Appia until you reach Lake Oeschinen after about an hour. Lake Oeschinen is a Unesco World Heritage Site and is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain lake in the Swiss Alps. There you have refreshment facilities, can swim in the (cold!) lake and enjoy the sun. A narrow hiking trail then continues along the hay path to the Oberbärgli mountain hut, where you can enjoy the stunning view of the turquoise lake from above. From here you can hike to the Oeschinen station, where you can either take the gondola down to Kandersteg or walk the last bit.

  • Difficulty: easy-medium
  • Length: 11 km
  • Duration: 3 hours 45 minutes
  • Ascent: 420hm, descent: 950hm

Maggiatal Hike

The starting point of the hike is in Ponte Brolla. The hike begins along the Maggia with a view of the picturesque riverbed. Through chestnut tree forests you will end up in the first Ticino village of your tour, Avegno. The route continues through the village and to a suspension bridge that crosses the Maggia. A steep and spectacular climb follows, with two huge rock slabs rising up to the left and right. The view at the top is worth it: the view into the Maggia valley is incomparable. The descent leads through more small villages and wine-growing areas to Maggia.
